16th Meeting of the IOBC-WPRS Working Group "INTEGRATED CONTROL IN PROTECTED CROPS, MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATE"
2-5 September 2025, Podgorica, Montenegro

HOST COUNTRY - MONTENEGRO

Situated in southeast Europe, next to Croatia and opposite Italy, nestled along the Adriatic Sea, Montenegro is known for its stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Despite its compact size, the country boasts diverse landscapes —from pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters to rugged mountains and medieval villages. Montenegro's 240 km coastline features enchanting spots like the Bay of Kotor, reminiscent of a fjord, numerous pebble beaches of Budva Riviera, a sandy Long Beach of Ulcinj, and numerous old towns and ancient villages. Inland, the dramatic Lovcen Mountain, the serene Lake Skadar and the rugged mountains of the north offer breathtaking vistas and opportunities for adventure.

Montenegro is also home to five very diverse national parks: Durmitor, Biogradska Gora, Lovćen, Skadar Lake, and Prokletije. These protected areas showcase the country's rich biodiversity, offering visitors the chance to explore ancient forests, glacial lakes, deep canyons, and limestone peaks. Early September is an ideal time to visit, with pleasant temperatures perfect for outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and sightseeing.

Podgorica, the host city, is centrally located, making it an excellent starting point for exploring Montenegro. Just a short drive from the capital, visitors can reach the stunning Adriatic coast, where the historic towns of Budva, Kotor, Herceg Novi and Bar invite exploration with their medieval charm. To the north, the Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers incredible hiking trails, while the Ostrog Monastery, dramatically carved into a cliffside, provides a unique cultural and spiritual experience.

With its scenic landscapes, rich history, and warm hospitality, Montenegro is not just a conference destination but an invitation to explore.

We encourage delegates to arrive a few days early or extend their stay to fully experience the beauty and diversity of this extraordinary country.
