Old Town of Kotor with its medieval walls is located at the farthest end of the Bay of Kotor, almost pressed into the foot of the rocky mountain looming over it.

Dating from the period of Illyrian-Roman wars, Kotor was developed, in the Middle Ages, into an important commercial and artistic centre. Many empires battled for control over the city throughout the centuries: from being an autonomous city of the Byzantine Empire, free city of medieval Serbia, and city under protection of Venice Republic just to be occupied later by France and then Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, until Kotor finally became part of Yugoslavia.

The specific atmosphere and architecture made Kotor a unique place in the world, a fact recognised by UNESCO when the organization placed the old part of the town on its list of World Heritage Sites.

Or visit the town of Bar with its Old Town and the Old Olive Tree.

Unlike all other old cities in Montenegro and in the Adriatic – the Old Town of Bar is not situated on the water. It is up in the hills above the town of Bar.

Bar Old Town is situated on the slopes of the imposing Mount Rumija. The old town of Bar’s turbulent history was reflected in its architecture – inside its walls, there were 240 buildings, streets, squares, flights of stairs, wells… Today it is a collection of the remains and ruins of architectural monuments and stone sculptures of various styles.
